Invitation to dialogue workshop 4: Assessing energy savings from sufficiency measures
Energy sufficiency is gaining increasing traction in research and the European policy landscape as a key complement to energy efficiency and renewable energy deployment. By addressing the demand for energy services, sufficiency measures can substantially reduce energy consumption while maintaining quality of life, contributing to climate mitigation, lower energy costs, support geopolitical independency and a more equitable energy transition. However, despite growing evidence of these benefits, the implementation of sufficiency policies remains challenging due to barriers related to public acceptance, political feasibility, and actual sustained effectiveness.
This workshop will introduce the concept of sufficiency, explain methodologies to estimate impact via sufficiency measures and looks into means to increase public acceptance and support for policy measures aiming at sufficiency reduced levels of consumption.
The intention is to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders to discuss ideas, barriers, and opportunities for advancing effective strategies and policies that support the adoption of more energy-sufficient consumption patterns.
